• Passport – The most obvious (and essential) document is your passport, but you’d be surprised how many people either don’t have one or have an expired one. Check whether your passport meets the country’s passport requirements.
• Visa – Depending on your situation and the country you are visiting, you may be refused entry or unable to work legally without the correct visa or work permit.
• Birth certificates – These are documents for both you and the people you are moving with. These are available in copies, but you should order your copies well in advance.
• References – It’s helpful to obtain references from recent employers, particularly if you plan to work abroad.
• Degrees and qualifications – If you don’t have the original documents, you can pay the examining body a fee to obtain the information.
• Medical information – To allow yourself enough time, you should request medical and dental information as soon as possible. Make sure you have a record of your immunisation history and all the vaccinations required for the country you are moving to.
• Driving licence – Ensure you have the legal right to drive in the country of your choice; some areas require an international driving permit.
