Types of Visa
You can obtain one of the following types of Schengen visas for Spain, depending on your reason for visiting:
- For travellers who must transit via an Austrian airport to travel to a place outside of the Schengen Area, an Austrian airport visa is available.
- For people who want to travel to Spain for vacation or tourism, a Spanish tourist visa is required.
- Travellers who want to visit friends or family who live in Spain require a Spanish visitor visa.
- Spanish business visas are required by businesspeople who must travel to Spain to attend business-related events.
- Spanish Visa for Official Visit – for Delegations travelling on Business to Spain.
- Spanish medical visas are available to those travelling to Spain for medical care.
- Spanish Study Visa – for students who intend to enrol in a course at a Spanish educational institution for up to three months.
- Spanish Visa for Cultural, Sports, and Film Crews – for individuals intending to participate in a cultural, sporting, or artistic event in Spain.
What Paperwork Is Needed?
You must provide documentation to the Spanish embassy or consulate in your home country proving your identity, history, and reason for visiting Spain. You must do this by supplying several necessary documents to obtain a Spanish visa:
- Application for a visa in Spain. Use your computer to fill out the form, print it, and sign it at the bottom.
- Two photographs for a passport. The images must be recent whole-face shots with a light background and be in passport format.
- The current passport has two blank pages so that a visa can be attached. It can also not be more than ten years old and must be valid for at least three more months after the day you intend to depart Spain and the entire Schengen area.
- Copies of your previous visas.
- All the pages from other passports, whether they are still in effect or not.
- Travel health insurance to Spain. You should get travel health insurance covering the entire country of Spain and all other Schengen nations before submitting your visa application. Your insurance must provide a minimum of 30,000 euros in coverage for medical emergencies, including repatriation in the event of death.
- Route of a round-trip flight and confirmation of your flight to and from Spain. The names, dates, and flight numbers should all be listed.
- Evidence of accommodations. I.e., a hotel booking.
- Evidence of adequate financial resources. No matter how long they plan to stay, foreign visitors must prove they have a minimum of €900 in cash per person to enter Spanish territory.
- A cover letter from yourself outlining your reasons for visiting Spain, your plans for the trip’s duration, your departure date, and other pertinent information.
- Proof of citizenship. This could be a marriage licence, a child’s birth certificate, a spouse’s death certificate, etc.
